"Gotham" season 2 episode three saw the death of Jerome Valeska (Cameron Monaghan) who may or may not be the most popular Batman villain the Joker.
The kid was marketed as the Crown Prince of Crime but no one in the show, or the writers and producers, tagged him as that.
Monaghan's convincing portrayal of the character only paved way for more questions if the Joker will indeed appear in the Fox TV series.
Although "Gotham" season 2 episode two titled "The Last Laugh" ultimately ended debates whether Jerome is the Joker or not, his death is still tied to the Batman villain.
"The creation of the Joker is a larger and more epic story than people realize, and this show is very much about kind of the deep, secret history," series creator Bruno Heller told Deadline. "So, as the show rolls on, people will see how a mythology is born, how a kind of cultural mien is created that will lead us to the Joker himself."
Showrunner Danny Cannon also argued that the Joker is not just one single person. As seen in the latest episode wherein few Gotham citizens blurted out a laugh similar to Jerome's, Danny Cannon said the Joker is some kind of ideology.
"I think the Joker isn't so much a single person as he is an ideology," Cannon told Entertainment Weekly. "[He's] an idea that we can all live without fear and we can all be free and we can all not live within the world's restrictions and not live within the rules at all. This guy walks between the lines and I think that's an ideology. It's not a single person. It's a way to live your life, and I think that's what we explore."
"Gotham" season 2 episode four is called "Strike Force." Read synopsis below.
"Captain Barnes (Michael Chiklis) is called to duty to create a law-abiding task force, with the help of Gordon. Meanwhile, Penguin gets caught up in a favor for Galavan, and Nygma asks Kringle out on a date."
