The internet world probably had a feast over the news of Matt Barnes - Derek Fisher fight. Reports have it that the current Memphis Grizzlies drove 95 miles to his former home and beat New York Knicks coach Derek Fisher who is currently dating his ex wife and "Basketball Wives" star Gloria Govan.
The dust has settled and it did not take long for Barnes to speak about the scuffle.
"My personal concern always is for my kids, their health, their happiness and their safety," Barnes said as per Memphis Commercial Appeal. "Outside of that, I'm here to focus on basketball. I don't want to start off by having anything negative so we'll let the process take place. ... All of the real details will come out at some point."
Barnes was also asked about Fisher who happened to be a former teammate of his in Los Angeles Lakers for four years.
"We were friends," he said. "We were good friends at one point."
In another interview with ESPN, Barnes denied he drove 95 miles to get to where Fisher was. He also insisted that he was just looking after his kids who he thought seemed uncomfortable with the presence of Govan's new lover.
"I live 15 minutes away and I was going over to check on my kids because they seemed uncomfortable," Barnes told ESPN. "That was my main reason for going over there."
"I can't believe people think I was some maniac driving 95 miles and listening to Tupac to go beat somebody up," Barnes said.
News of Matt Barnes - Derek Fisher fight two nights ago and Yahoo Sports reported the scuffle only stopped when Govan's relatives intervened.
"Barnes told friends that two people at the house - including a relative of his estranged wife - interceded on Fisher's behalf, sources told Yahoo Sports. Barnes found Fisher in the backyard with Gloria and family members, and the altercation escalated from there, into the kitchen and then the home's front room, one witness said."
TMZ also said, citing witnesses, that Barnes landed a punch on Fisher's grill. The site wrote Barnes feels disrespected by his former teammate for dating his ex-wife.
"We're told Barnes berated Fisher for dating his estranged wife Gloria Govan -- saying he felt disrespected because they've been good friends for years," TMZ wrote.
"The witness says Barnes made it clear he felt betrayed by Fish.
"Fisher stood up to Barnes and an argument broke out -- the witness tells us Barnes threw a punch that hit Derek square in the mouth. We're told Derek fought back and "was holding his own" -- until several people, including Gloria, rushed in to try to break it up."
