As if Twihards need more reasons to celebrate the "Twilight" saga's 10th year anniversary, hit novel author Stephenie Meyer released a new vampire-centric book that "re-imagines" main characters Edward and Bella by switching up their genders.
In an interview with Good Morning America on Tuesday, Meyer announced the release of her new book, which is set 10 years after mortal Bella Swan fell in love with vampire Edward Cullen.
"Now, Bella is Beau and Edward is Edyth. I wanted to do something fun for the 10th anniversary," Meyer told Good Morning America. "It's just a love story. It doesn't matter who's the boy and who's the girl, it just works."
According to the 41-year-old author, the idea for gender-swapping the main characters comes from claims that Bella was a "damsel in distress."
"That's always bothered me a little bit because anyone surrounded by superheroes is going to be in a little bit of distress," the 41-year-old author said. "So I thought, 'What if we switched it around a little bit and see how a boy does?'"
"I wonder if it will change how people look at Bella a little bit, to see her as a him," Meyer said. "I do feel like it's really, very much the same thing. I guess my hope is that maybe the younger readers will be reintroduced, because a lot of my readers, they're all 10 years older now so there's a whole new generation."
Meanwhile, Stephenie Meyer described the experience of writing the "re-imagined" novel as "fun, but also really fast and easy."
According to an Entertainment Weekly report, for Meyer, writing the new "Twilight" saga book allowed her to re-word some parts from the original story as well as correct some grammar mistakes.
According to People.com, the new addition to the "Twilight" saga is entitled "Life and Death: Twilight Reimagined" and is reportedly 442 pages long.
The special edition, released on Tuesday, comes with the original "Twilight" novel along with a "bonus content," Entertainment Weekly reported.
