'World War Z 2' Release Date All Set! Brad Pitt Confirmed To Return To The Sequel

| By

Following its surprising success in the box office, Brad Pitt is confirmed to return in "World War Z 2."

The 51-year-old Hollywood superstar is set to reprise his role as UN Agent, Gerry Lane in the film with the release date set in 2017.

According to Australia Network News, the sequel to the post apocalyptic-themed movie first released in 2013 is already in the works with Brad Pitt in the lead role as well as producer.

Apparently, Oscar-nominated writer Steven Knight had already finished the first draft of "World War Z 2."

And according to Screen Rant Knight gladly shared his thoughts about the film.

"I think the beauty of the first film was the way that it never paused for breath. It never spent a moment thinking, 'Hang on a minute, we'd better tell the audience what this is all about.' It stayed in the moment, it stayed with that person", Knight said.

According to Collider, "World War Z 2" is most likely going to stick to its roots by remaining focused on the single POV.

And while very few details about the film has been revealed, except to its planned release date, Steven Knight did mention to Indie Wire that the sequel will start with a "clean slate"

"I thought, 'Why not? What fun,'" he said of working on the sequel. "It's not quite like the other, we're starting with clean slate. When they've signed off we're on."

Following the reported rift between Brad Pitt and former director Marc Forster, "The Impossible" director Juan Antonio Bayona will step in to direct the sequel written by Steven Knight and produced by David Ellison, Brad Pitt, Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner.

With no specif date yet, "World War Z 2" is confirmed to be released in 2017.
