Collider earlier reported that "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" director Zack Snyder and HBO are in discussions for a possible "Watchmen" TV series, based on the graphic novel of the same name by Alan More.
Snyder is also the director of the book's film adaptation released in 2009.
Fans have polarizing reaction on the "Watchmen" TV series plans but how real is the rumor? For those who want to see the golden age superheroes on a weekly basis, looks like it will indeed happen.
HBO confirmed they are now in preliminary discussion.
"Preliminary discussions regarding Watchmen have occurred, but we have no additional information and no deals are in place," the network said in a statement as reported by Deadline.
"Watchmen" TV series will surely undergo intense observation from fans. The book, first published by DC Comics in 1986 and written by Alan Moore and drawn by Dave Gibbons, is considered as one of the best graphic novels of all time.
It's movie counterpart also holds a 65% fresh approval rating in Rotten Tomatoes for its gritty and visually striking cinematography. The film starred Jackie Earle Haley, Malin Åkerman, Billy Crudup, Matthew Goode, Carla Gugino, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, and Patrick Wilson.
Collider said nothing is concrete yet about the plans of "Watchmen" TV series being shown in HBO.
"It's unclear at this point if Snyder is indeed planning to produce and adapt the Before Watchmen series, or if he's pitching an original interpretation of available Watchmen material," Collider's Dave Trumbore wrote.
Adding, "We're not sure if this new project envisions character-centric series that would each stand on their own (except for the narrative tie-ins to Snyder's 2009 film) or if it will start out as individual stories that eventually cross-pollinate, following the Marvel plan. What's unlikely is any kind of crossover into the current DCCU, as Nite Owl/Dr. Manhattan meeting their meta selves in Batman/Superman would like annihilate the cinematic universe."
