Apple's latest flagship smartphone, the iPhone 6s, launched with four color options but rose gold has reportedly proven to be the most popular for pre-orders.
According to a report by AppleInsider, supply chain sources spoke with KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo and revealed that "the rose gold iPhone 6s series is accounting for between 30 and 40 percent of preorders."
However, Kuo said that the rose gold casing, along with the smatphone's back light module and Taptic Engine, "are all responsible for production bottlenecks."
The report corroborates a Tech Times report from last weekend that noted a lack of the rose gold color option in certain Sprint stores. The carrier reportedly blamed "overwhelming demand" for the said color option.
But what does the iPhone 6s rose gold look like?
"It's kind of Kim Kardashian pink," Rhode Island School of Design associate professor Cas Holman said, as quoted by Bloomberg.
"It feels like an extension of the gold in that it's just kind of over-the-top glam," she added.
Many would think it's the ladies snapping up the pink iPhone but it's actually the guys rushing to it. The reason behind this is "peacocking," according to the Color Association of the United States.
"Men have been peacocking it out over the last few years more than women," Leslie Harington, executive director of the group said. "You go to an event, and women are all black and white. The men have teal, turquoise - pink shirts - they're really looking a lot at color."
Should men go out and buy a rose gold iPhone 6s? Noting that peacocking "had its moment," men's magazine Esquire isn't so keen on the idea.
"Now, men's style is taking a turn for the more subdued - shades of gray and nave have never been more popular - and we have to admit we're a little surprised to see such a brash color option gaining traction with those of the XY persuasion."
Good thing then that Apple offers the iPhone 6s in other color options. Apart from rose gold, the latest smartphone from Cupertino is available in silver, gold and space gray.
