Microsoft announced that "Project Spark" is now free for all its users, while Conker DLC has been discontinued.
Rahul Sandil, head of Microsoft Studios Team Xbox, announced that "Project Spark" will be receiving its major update from "a free-to-play model to a free and open creation platform" starting Oct. 5 which means that all paid downloadable contents will be offered free for both new and existing users of the app, NDTV reported,
"Project Spark's goal has always been to empower creativity. We've been an incubation engine for ideas from epic to artistic and we plan to continue doing so. Project Spark inspires and empowers over 200,000 creators who have shared tens of millions of custom objects, behaviors and experiences," Rahul Sandilwrote.
"Every day we see anywhere between 300 and 400 new games being uploaded on our platform. Our support of these creators and our communications with them will continue in an open, free and collaborative environment."
As all contents goes free, Microsoft will refund users who purchased digital content and digital disc activated on or after July 28, 2015, while "remainder balance of purchased in-game tokens will be entitled to Microsoft Store credit equivalent to their money spent. Microsoft Store credits will be awarded automatically to all users within 30-60 days after October 5." In line to these changes, it was confirmed that the developers will discontinue Conker's Big Reunion DLC, but allows users "to continue his story in whatever ways they want."
"In addition, the development team said that Project Spark will also launch a number of various content, updates and features in order to deliver a more enhanced gaming experience," Tech Times reported.
It continued saying, "These include an increase in the maximum terrain limit by up to two times; an increase in the maximum prop limit by up to 500; the addition of more than 200 assets that include a bog biome, goblin warlord, dragon and a single set of new primitive building blocks; the privilege of having 100 Upload Slots for each user's creations; the shift from using upvote/downvote ratings to favorites and downloads to determine UGC ranking; discontinuing of the Project Spark Marketplace and the Tour and Treasure Trove; and revamping of achievements for both creators and players."
