Floyd Mayweather Jr. - Manny Pacquiao fight rematch is far from happening for now.
Floyd has already retired this month, leaving the door closed for a rematch against Pacman who he beat last May via unanimous decision. He was also pissed off by Pacman who claimed his loss was due to shoulder injury.
Although Floyd said he will not fight again after winning against Andre Berto to match the 49-0 record of Rocky Marciano, fans and pundits alike are not giving up. They have doubts Floyd will not return to the game and Floyd Mayweather Jr. - Manny Pacquiao fight rematch discussions are still alive.
Manny Pacquiao is reportedly set to fight former sparring mate Amir Khan but for Boxing News 24 columnist Chris Williams, Pacman should meet Floyd on the ring again. Williams believes Pretty Boy's legacy should not end at 49-0 and he should get his 50th victory by slugging it out with Manny Pacquiao again.
"It'll nice for Mayweather to improve his record to 50-0 by taking Pacquiao's scalp for the second time," Williams wrote.
"A lot of new fans would be more than happy to see Mayweather add Pacquiao's pelt to his collection a second time, and the old boxing fans won't mind see him whip Pacquiao a second time.
Getting win No. 50 against Pacquiao would be a great way for Mayweather to sail off into the sunset and to pay the fans back for their devotion to him over the year."
Williams did notw that Floyd Mayweather Jr. - Manny Pacquiao fight rematch can only happen if the latter will do good in his next fight.
"For the Mayweather-Pacquiao to get the rematch with Mayweather, he's (Pacquiao) going to need to win his next fight in February against whomever Pacquiao's promoter Bob Arum sets him up against," he said.
"Arum looks like he's going to match him against a tough opponent like Amir Khan, and that's a fight that Pacquiao could very well lose."
