No one was more excited for Zendaya's lookalike Barbie doll than the Disney star herself. She was so excited about having a doll that looked like her that she couldn't help but show it off during the Barbie Rock 'N Royals Concert Experience last Saturday.
"We are so excited to honor Zendaya with this one-of-a-kind doll as she encourages girls to Raise Their Voices and inspires us to #BeSuper," Barbie introduced the customized doll through their Instagram account.
The "KC Undercover" was so impressed with her plastic doppelganger that she brought it as her date on the red carpet.
"When I was little I couldn't find a Barbie that looked like me, my...how times have changed," the teen actress said on an Instagram post featuring her new doll. "Thank you Barbie for this honor and for allowing me to be apart of your diversification and expansion of the definition of beauty."
Zendaya's Barbie doll received praises from Nicki Minaj, who also received a customized version of herself.
On the other hand, Demi Lovato, called out Mattel for a not creating dolls that look like her.
"Her @Barbie, what about a curvy doll or one with true to size measurements? I'll model!!!" the "Skyscraper" hitmaker's since-deleted tweet read.
Despite pertaining to the long-running issue of the famed dolls not portraying what real women look like, however, Lovato was accused of stealing Zendaya's Barbie doll to bring focus on herself.
"Why Demi Lovato putting her two cents in? she needs to let zendaya have her moment of having her first Barbie doll," a Twitter user posted, regarding the singer's tweet.
Do you think Lovato's protest to the famed toy brand steal the spotlight away from Zendaya's Barbie doll moment? Or should it have been a chance for Mattel to promote "diversification and expansion of the definition of beauty" further instead?
