Guillermo Del Toro Delays 'Pacific Rim 2' Release Date Because Of Charlie Hunnam's Challenging Request?

| By

"Pacific Rim 2" was confirmed shortly after the success of the original film came forth.

And while Guillermo del Toro is determined to continue with the story of the monsters and aliens in the sequel, new development revealed that the film's production has been delayed, which will led to the delayed of its release date as well.

"Originally slated to shoot in Toronto in November of this year, we're now being told that the production for Pacific Rim: Maelstrom has been delayed until 2016--what month specifically, we don't know," according to Latino-Review.

While there's no official confirmation that the delay in shooting will affect "Pacific Rim 2" release date, Latino-Review claimed that there's a great possibility that it will happen.

"The reason for the delay is also unknown at this time, but there's a good chance this will negatively affect the release date, which is currently set for Aug. 4, 2017," the publication added.

While IGN tried and failed to get answers from Legendary Pictures, there have been speculations as to why Guillermo del Toro's film has been delayed.

Apparenlty, there have been speculations that lead star, Charlie Hunnam's desire to create "Pacific Rim 2" with less CGI had something to do with the film's delay.

It can be remembered that in his interview with EW, the 35-year-old English actor said that he would prefer to have the sequel done with less CGI and instead focus on the movie's human characters.

"I think world creation and monster creation and all of that stuff is exciting as a secondary element of storytelling. When it becomes more important than storytelling, I get very nervous, and you sort of lose me a little bit. Although we tried very hard on Pacific Rim to marry those two elements, I do feel like ultimately it got weighed heavier on the side of spectacle than storytelling."

Apparently, Charlie Hunnam is keen to seeing more "depth" in the story of the human characters in "Pacific Rim 2."

"I hope that we are able to remedy that a little bit going into the second. Not to say I wasn't proud of the film. I really liked it, and I felt like it delivered exactly what it was supposed to. But I do feel like we could have maybe plumbed the depths of the character and the storytelling a little bit more."

First scheduled for Aug. 4, 2017 release date, there's still no confirmed date as to when Guillermo del Toro's "Pacific Rim 2" will hit theaters.
