"How to Get Away with Murder" season 2 episode one went down and as promised, it put a name and face to the killer of Rebecca who was murdered in last season's finale.
Anybody guessed it right? (Spoiler alert)
The one who killed Rebecca is not exactly a popular choice. She's more of a mild-mannered and often soft but after the "How to Get Away with Murder" season 2 episode one, the way people look at her changed dramatically. Rebecca Weil is the killer and both Annalise Keating and viewers were shocked by this revelation.
How did showrunner Peter Nowalk came about this idea? He said he didn't 'always knew' this twist but insists he thinks this is the best route to take.
"I won't say always knew, but I did always feel that pull, because I really understood why she did it, especially with her tie toward Sam," Nowalk said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly after the premiere.
"Part of me was wanting it to not be her, because I felt that so strongly. Is that expected? Ultimately, I decided to go with something that maybe felt more expected because it felt real, and really just opens up a mystery."
Nowalk adds the confrontation between Bonnie and Annalise offers more details.
"If you watch that scene again, there's a lot of dialogue in there that Bonnie is saying that reveals a lot about her backstory," he said. " That's the ultimate thing that I decided on: Rather than go for shock, I wanted character."
In earlier interviews, Nowalk said audiences will get to learn what went on between Annalise and Bonnie (Liza Weil) this whole season and why the latter is very loyal to her boss. He said this time that will be a slow burn.
"I don't want to tease anything, because I feel like we're going to turn over the cards quickly and give people the answers they want quickly," he said on the same interview.
"We never try to drag things out too long. That's annoying. People will find out in the right time."
"How to Get Away with Murder" season 2 episode 2 is called "She's Dying."
