The blobfish has been dubbed the world's ugliest animal.
According to CNN, British biologist, television personality, and president of the Ugly Animal Preservation Society Simon Watt announced the news Thursday.
"The votes have been counted and verified," Watt told CNN. "The mascot for the Ugly Animal Preservation Society is ... the blobfish."
Watt made the selection official by giving a certificate to United Kingdom comedian, and the man behind the choice Paul Foot. On its website, the United States National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration said the creature appears in a simple form.
"(The Blobfish) look like a big, blobby tadpole, just a mass of pale, jelly-like flesh with puffy, loose skin, a big nose and beady, staring eyes," the NOAA said.
The fish also only grows up to 12 inches.
While the blobfish has never been consumed by anyone, the species itself eats crabs and lobsters according to the British Science Association, CNN reported.
Blobfish are most commonly found along the coast of southeastern Australia and Tasmania, and like to live at depths of 2,000 to 4,000 feet. This amounts to 600 to 1,200 meters. The species is a combination of the cartoon character Ziggy and jelly who most feel should be made more public CNN reported.
Over the summer, Watt led a group that went around seeking nominations for the creature at the same time it was determining what fish species would be deemed the world's ugliest.
To help with the process, Watt and the British National Science and Engineering Competition made a YouTube page where fans of ugly animals could see 11 comedians state their cases for 11 animals who are ugly and endangered.
Paul Foot's blobfish made it out as the winner, beating out the proboscis monkey, a primate with an obscene schnoz; the flightless dung beetle; and the unfortunate pig-nosed turtle.
