Amir Khan's next fight is probably the biggest one to expect in the professional boxing world, or at least in the welterweight division.
The British boxer is confident he will be able to carve his own legacy in the sport and he is courting big names to make it happen. One of those he publicly challenged was undefeated American welterweight champ Floyd Mayweather but to no avail.
The problem now is Floyd Mayweather Jr. has already retired. This means Khan's dream of slugging it out against Pretty Boy is already dead.
Many critics think Floyd Mayweather Jr's retirement is just temporary, that he will be back to fight and earn more money. Amir Khan thinks the same. However, he still does not believe Floyd will chose him as his next foe because the latter is afraid of him.
"If he does, I still don't think he'll fight me," Khan said in an interview with News Day.
"I think he doesn't want to be beaten. It would be a massive fight. I have a huge fan base in England. But I think he just wants the undefeated record, that's the reason he won't fight me."
Amir Khan also went on to say that Floyd Mayweather Jr. is cheating fans for choosing opponents who are already past their prime.
"He's cheating the fight fans," he said.
"He can't call himself 'TBE' ['The Best Ever'] because he's not fighting guys at their peak. Look at [Muhammad] Ali, he fought tough guys when he had to fight tough guys."
Although Floyd Mayweather Jr. is already off limits, fans waiting for Amir Khan's next fight don't need to feel disappointed though as the possible man on the other corner is someone who is also of high stature - Manny Pacquiao.
"Hopefully a Manny Pacquiao fight," he said when asked what's next for him.
"A Pacquiao fight is something I would love to have. I think it can happen. That would be a huge fight. With his fan base and my fan base, that's a huge international fight. Obviously we both want to fight, right now it's up to the promoters."
Manny Pacquiao also confirmed before that his next fight could be against Amir Khan next year.
