A new honey cake is available for Rosh Hashana.
According to Yahoo Shine, the dessert is a great way to conclude a Rosh Hashana dinner or any special occasion.
"This is a cake worth making no matter what religion or belief system you follow," Kemp Minifie, resident recipe guru at Gourmet Live and former executive food editor of Gourmet Magazine told Yahoo Shine. "There's so much choice out there in terms of honey." Minifie found many honey cake recipes which used buckwheat or dark honey with a strong flavor and might not be favorable to everyone.
During the Jewish holiday when people reflect on the past and look into the future, honey is used to represent hope for a sweet year ahead. While challah or bread, and apples can be immersed in the honey the nectar can also baked into a cake Yahoo Shine reported.
A standard honey cake calls for two and a half cups of all purpoe flour, two teaspoons baking powder, half a teaspoon of baking soda, half a teaspoon salttwo teaspoons cinnamon, a fourth teaspoon ground ginger, fourth of a teaspoon of ground clove, three large eggs, one cup of sugar, one and one fourth cups of vegetable oil, one cup pure honey, a three-fourths cup of lukewarm coffee which can be brewed or dissolved in water and one and one and a half teaspoons of packed grated orange zest, Yahoo Shine reported.
This makes one 10-inch honey cake. The treat is usually made in 40 minutes, and a total of four hours when all is said and done.
To make the chocolate glaze: cake makers should use a fourth cup plus two tablespoons of well-stirred canned unsweetened coconut milk that is not light Yahoo Shine reported.
Two teaspoons of light corn syrup, and four ounces of bittersweet (60 percent cacao) chocolate finely chopped should also be used. A flaky sea salt such as Maldon is recommended.
In addition to a 10-inch bundt pan, nonstick baking spray that is shaken well first, and a cake tester or wooden skewer for testing the cake to determine if it done is also required. The cake should be heated on the middle rack of the oven at 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
