FXX TV series "You're the Worst" is not the typical romantic comedy story out there. Not only it steps away from rom-com cliches, it also seriously deals with some social issues like PSTD and beauty standards.
The first two "You're the Worst" season 2 episodes have aired and the character who's taking the spotlight is Kether Donohue's Lindsay.
This character is not the typical leading lady but Lindsay is very much the exact version of what people see in reality. Lindsay is the curvy type who does not instantly get the man she likes and the show explore that kind of reality.
"[You're The Worst] pokes fun at the fat best friend with the fat Lindsay, but also Lindsay also gets to be sexy and funny and grotesque. It's very rare that you see a woman eating the way Lindsay does on the show," she said in an interview with Bustle.
Donohue went on to explain that the Lindsay and Gretchen (Aya Cash) saw in the first two "You're the Worst" season 2 episodes is not like those who beg viewers to worship them. Instead, they are portrayed as women of everyday lives.
"What's great about this show is that there's really no label on the female character," she said.
Adding, "For Gretchen, you see her sh*tting her pants in one episode last season. What's great is that you get to see women on television doing things that males would do in male driven comedies," she explained.
"You know, in these male driven comedies, we get to see men doing this kind of physical slapstick comedy all the time, and in this comedy it's really nice to see women getting do these kind of outrageous, grotesque things and still be likable and sexy at the same time."
Donohue's Lindsay is expected to be romantically linked with Edgar (Desmin Borges), the PSTD-stricken best friend of lead male character Jimmy (Chris Geere).
The next "You're the Worst" season 2 episode is called "Born Dead."
