Fans and contestants alike will be greeted by a familiar challenge at the "Survivor: Cambodia" premiere on Wednesday. A surprise may also be in store further into "Second Chance."
"Survivor" is digging deep into its history as it brings back its very first challenge and an old favorite, "Quest for Fire."
"In the original challenge, the castaways had to guide a lit raft through shallow water. Once ashore, the competitors carried raft above land to the finish line," Zap2It recalled adding, "Along the way, they had to light a number of torches, culminating in a final fire bowl in front of a giant bamboo statue."
But it wouldn't be the first time "Quest for Fire" made a comeback. It also challenged the "All-Stars" contestants. In that version however, they had to retrieve the raft from the ocean floor then light the torches on the way to a pyre at the finish line, according to the website.
This means during the "Survivor: Cambodia" premiere, contestant Kelly Wiglesworth is the only one who has completed the challenge before.
While "Second Chance's" opener brings a tough challenge right off the bat, it could have a surprise in store further into season 31.
Fans already know that contestants will be split evenly into two tribes, the teal-clad Ta Keo and Bayon who will wear hot pink. But when Planet Buff unveiled the official buffs for season 31, a third yellow buff for Angkor also came out.
"People [attending 'Survivor's' official press day] wanted to know if this was a merge, an outcast tribe or a shuffled tribe," HNGN said.
According to Inside Survivor, the two tribes will be shuffled and split into 3 separate ones - Bayon, Ta Keo and Angkor - at some point in the game.
While it didn't say when it might happen, the website said the shuffle "definitely adds an interesting element to the game" and could be used to lessen the impact of pre-game alliances.
The "Survivor: Cambodia" premiere airs Wednesday, Sept. 23 on CBS.
