It's about time for Pentatonix to produce a new album - this time a record full of their original songs rather than creative covers of other singer's popular songs.
Made up of talented vocalists from Texas, Scott Hoying, Mitch Grassi, Kristin Maldonado, Avi Kaplan, and Kevin Olusola burst into the music scene when they became the first ever champion of NBC's a capella competition "The Sing Off." They later blew up Youtube - accumulating over one billion views - with their covers and evolution of music videos.
Using only their voices, they were noticed for their brilliant arrangements and eventually won a Grammy for Best Arrangement, Instrumental or A Cappella last year.
Pentatonix' new album, to be released under RCA Records, will be made up of their own original songs this time. Their previous offerings, albeit still amazing, were filled with song covers with a couple of their original composition mixed in. This new record, according to the members themselves, will reportedly be a way for them to prove that they can also compose their own hits.
"We've proved we can sing and we can arrange, now we want to prove we can write," Hoying recently told Entertainment Weekly. "We really wanted to push ourselves. We want to establish ourselves as original artists and show that we have something to say!"
And how do they write their songs?
"Generally we go the studio with a couple ideas and start messing around with them," Hoying shared, but they actually "just follow what inspires us!"
He also promised to give their listeners a variety of songs "from chill, soulful stuff to upbeat, poppy craziness."
The record will reportedly be out on Oct. 16 and can already be pre-ordered on iTunes, Amazon, and Google Play.
