The new "American Horror Story Hotel" trailers featured some very chic yet disturbing images that promise a frightening experience for its audience.
However, is it too reminiscent of another iconic horror film?
Bustle compiled stills of the terrifying teaser and compared them to scenes in Stanley Kubrick's "The Shining," which was arguably one of the best horror films during the '80s. The FX series is reportedly "borrowing plenty of imagery from The Shining, which means that these residents are in for one hell of a hotel stay."
In contrast, the fifth season of the horror anthology revolves around rock stars and fashion queens while "The Shining" followed a family who checks in at the Overlook Hotel and discovers the evil within in it.
Meanwhile, the article pointed out several similarities between the Lady Gaga-led show and the Stephen King novel adaptation - the classic elevators, the curious child at the door, blood in the hallways, the creepy children, and more.
Even Denis O'Hare, who will appear in the new series as a trans woman named Liz Taylor, compared it to "The Shining" as well as another legendary thriller centered around a hotel - "Bates Motel.
"The theme is different, but also the feeling on the set is different," he also shared to TVLine during the Emmy's red carpet last Sunday. "But I think it's going to be really scary. It feels like Season 1 in many ways ... and I think it's because we're back in LA. You can't help it!"
Executive producer Ryan Murphy also promised to "go back to the Murder House for one episode" last month.
Nevertheless, the "American Horror Story Hotel" trailers still managed to disturb its audience, as it intended to do.
ComingSoon.net called them "pure, 100% nightmare fuel." Bustle also commended the show's choice of film to get inspiration from, hoping that it lives up to its hype and promise of giving "as many scares and has as high of a creep factor as the film its promo is paying homage to."
