With no definite date for season four yet, fans will have to feed their hunger for Benedict Cumeberbatch with the "Sherlock" Christmas special which is scheduled to air later this year.
However, avid followers will have to prepare themselves with several changes to the one-episode special - such as the good detective being nice!
Set in the Vitorian era, executive producers reportedly Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss want "to see them do it in the proper outfits, just once."
"We never bothered explaining what they were doing in modern London, so why bother explaining what they're doing in Victorian London, when that's where they're supposed to be?" Moffat is quoted as telling Entertainment Weekly.
He will reportedly be more toned down than the infernally rude genius crime consultant that fans have grown to love for three seasons.
"Sherlock is a little more polished [in the Christmas special]," Moffat further told EW about Benedict Cumberbatch's iconic character's one-time change in attitude. "He operates like a Victorian gentleman instead of a posh, rude man. He's a lot less brattish."
He was indeed a bit more corteous based onthe previously released teaser for the special episode.
On the other hand, Martin Freeman, who portrays Dr. John Watson, will be "more uptight."
EW also noted that the "Sherlock" Christmas special would be "spooky" with Moffat teasing fans about the tone of the story.
"Ghost stories work better in a Victorian setting," the showrunner said.
The special episode will reportedly be a standalone plot and won't be linked to the past three seasons or the upcoming fourth one. Production is said to start in Spring next year and will supposedly air in January 2017, according to speculations and comparisons of past seasons.
