Metta World Peace and Los Angeles Lakers are reportedly close to agreeing to a deal.
The veteran small forward who has been out of the NBA since 2014 is set for a return with sources saying he has been working out with the team he won one championship with.
Although Metta World Peace's Los Angeles Lakers return will definitely firepower and veteran presence to the team, some are doubtful if he still has some gas left on the tank.
At 35 years old and lack of NBA type of competition in the last two years, people are not that positive about his return. Metta World Peace does not only think he can still compete. He believes he is still one of the best small forwards in the world.
"I don't really know, honestly," he told New York Daily News correspondent Mitch Abramson when asked about his plan this upcoming training camp.
"I work out. I'm still one of the best small forwards in the world but my career has been up and down. With my career being up and down, some teams are like, 'Can we use Metta World Peace, where is he going to fit in? Is he going to be good for the rookies? Can he still play?' I'm still one of the best small forwards in the world so that's not a question."
Metta World Peace added that more than his fitness, what people should be asking is if he will fit into a certain team.
"But the question is can I actually fit into a team and can a coach coach me? Those are realistic questions and it's cool. I still train to be one of the best."
The bruiser baller previously confirmed he is close to signing with Purple and Gold in an ambush interview by TMZ Sports last week.
"Basketball is an easy sport, and a lot of the professionals, they're ok; they nothing special," World Peace said when asked by reporter if he can still play.
Mike Kupchak also confirmed Metta World Peace's Los Angles Lakers return in an interview with Lakers Nation.
"I love (Metta World Peace)," the Los Angeles Lakers GM said.
"I really do. Last year, he was in Europe, he was in China. (Then) he coached his daughter's middle school or high school team to a championship. He was here to work out when he got back from Europe playing, and then he'd come in through the summer. He's been coming in on a regular basis. I do know that he wants to play, and that's where we are."
