Why Floyd Mayweather Is Being Urged To Stay Retired By Top Boxing Official?

| By

Floyd Mayweather Jr. is retired now. Long before his fight with Andre Berto last week, which he won as expected, he already announced his plan of hanging his gloves.

Although it came straight from his mouth, some are still skeptical about Pretty Boy's future plans.

If it is a top boxing official who will be asked, he'd rather have Floyd Mayweather Jr. outside the boxing ring for good.

If some pundits and pro boxer believe the undefeated American fighter will make a comeback, World Boxing Council president Mauricio Sulaiman urges him to stay retired.

"He confirmed his retirement from boxing," Sulaman said according to a report by Miguel Rivera of BoxingScene.com.

"For me, I think it would be something spectacular if he didn't return, because it would mark [the start of an era for] a new generation of fighters. He goes out on top, unbeaten with health and money. If he can maintain that position [by staying retired] it would set an example."

Floyd Mayweather Jr. has nothing to prove anymore and the WBC official think there are many players who can fill the gap once he is gone.

Among those who he think can blossom are "Golovkin, the Canelo-Cotto winner, Chocolatito, Leo Santa Cruz. Quality, charisma and luck is required."

Right now, many boxers are excited about Floyd Mayweather Jr.'s retirement. Kell Brook, the current IBF Welterweight champion, vows to surpass the achievement set by the American welterweight champ.

"Floyd's last fight on Saturday means that the door is open for someone to become boxing's new mega-star - and I want to be that man," the British boxer said as per report by World Boxing News.

"His 49-0 record is incredible and he leaves a phenomenal legacy behind, but I believe I can reach that pinnacle and go past it."

Current WBA interim middleweight champion and UK's no. 1 middleweight boxer Chris Eubank Jr. set the same mission for himself with Floyd Mayweather Jr's retirement.

"There's a fighter called Chris Eubank Jr from England. I think he's going to be the next guy to replace Floyd," he told SkySports when asked who is the no. 1 boxer in the world with Floyd out in the picture.
