Superman Batman: Ben Affleck's Batman Role Faces Backlash - Should Matt Damon Play Robin?

Oscar-winner Ben Affleck will play Batman in sequel to "The Man of Steel" according to E! Online.

The Internet was busy with reaction to the news by Warner Bros. E! Online reported.

"True Blood" actor Robert Kazinsky was one who took to Twitter to express his thoughts.

"Ben Affleck is the new Batman? I absolutely didn't see it coming but I do absolutely see it working," he said. "Gotta be better than Daredevil amirite? OOOOOOOOOOOOH Matt Damon as the new joker? waddya think of them apples?"

Website Reddit.com put a photoshopped-image of Affleck in costume and his friend and fellow actor Matt Damon with an infamous red and green ensemble with a caption that said "Now that Ben Affleck is Batman, this can only mean one thing," E! Online reported.

also took his thoughts about the news to twitter.

"Damon as Robin! Damon as Robin!" former "West Wing" actor Joshua Malina tweeted. "I bet the Dr. Who people are psyched they didn't go with Ben Affleck."

"Stand By Me" actor Wil Wheaton then said: "Really looking forward to seeing Affleck bring the depth and gravitas to Batman that he brought to "Daredevil" and "Gigli," he said. "But Affleck was the bomb in Phantoms. Relax, Team Affleck. I'm just making a joke. Calm yourselves with a rewarding viewing of Jersey Girl, and everything will be fine."

According to the Guardian Affleck became familiar with a similar Batman character in Superman dating back to Hollywoodland in 2006.

"Ben provides an interesting counter-balance to Henry's Superman," "Man of Steel director Zack Snyder told Deadline. "He has the acting chops to create a layered portrayal of a man who is older and wiser than Clark Kent and bears the scars of a seasoned crime fighter, but retain the charm that the world sees in billionaire Bruce Wayne. I can't wait to work with him."
