Kate Beckinsale & Theo James Locked In For 'Underworld 5' As 'Merlin' Star Bradley James Takes On Villain Role

| By

Following its last installment three years ago, "Underworld 5" is reportedly in the works.

According to JoBlo, Kate Beckinsale, who has been in the franchise since it first started in 2003 is said to reprise her role as Selen in the fifth sequel.

Together with Beckinsale, Theo James, who appeared in "Underworld Awakening" as the vampire David, is reportedly also reprising his role in "Underworld 5."

While both stars have yet to confirm their involvement in the said project, Beckinsale's producer husband, Len Wiseman revealed to IGN that a fifth film is actually in the works, in addition to a separate spin-off film and TV series.

"There's a few things being developed right now and there's some characters that we really like," the 42-year-old writer-producer said of the "Underworld 5" movie.

"There's kind of more of a spin-off of some of the characters like we did with Rise of the Lycans and then another film is also being developed in the works with Kate possibly as well, and then there's a television series as well.

"It's kind of expanding that universe in many ways," he continued.

Meanwhile sources of The Hollywood Reporter claimed that Theo James will most likely return to the franchise as well.

"Sources say there was an option on James because of his work on the previous film, and he'll star opposite two new female characters," THR claimed.

And while there are already reports that "Underworld 5" is coming next year, Wiseman clarified that everything is still in the early stages of development, hence nothing has been made final.

"You tell me I don't know, there's a lot of releases out there that aren't actually true," he explained.

Meanwhile, JoBlo added that the story will now focus "a new and younger generation of vampires and werewolves who are locked in a seemingly never-ending battle between supernatural races."

Adding that "Game of Thrones" star Tobias Menzies has been tapped to play the role of Marius, the new Lycan leader while Deadline claimed that "Merlin" star Bradley James has been cast as one of the male villains whose character has yet to be divulged.

Cory Goodman has reportedly been tasked to pen the script for "Underworld 5" with Lakeshore Entertainment's Gary Lucchesi and Tom Rosenberg producing.

Meanwhile, Anna J. Foerster, who has been famous for her brilliance in cinematography will reportedly make her directorial debut in "Underworld 5."

With no concrete release date yet, Kate Beckinsale and Theo James will reportedly start shooting this fall in Czech Republic capital of Prague.
