Sam and Dean's new adventure isn't going to be a walk in the park and the new "Supernatural" season 11 trailer says as much.
After unwittingly releasing the Darkness, Sam (Jared Padalecki) feels enormous guilt at what he believes was the result of his desperation to save Dean (Jensen Ackles) from the Mark of Cain.
Desperate to stop this new threat from destroying the world, he calls on a force that he never really turned to in past seasons. With demons tormenting them at every turn and angels turning out as not so holy entities, the Winchesters have never really thought of turning to the Man upstairs in the past.
With a new ancient evil invading Earth, Sam has no choice but to beg for help from God (who die-hard fans think is actually Chuck).
"If you hear me, God, we need your help," the younger Winchester implores in the "Supernatural" season 11 trailer. His prayer, however, is mingled with scenes of him all bloody and tortured. Will God hear him out and finally make an appearance this season?
Even if Castiel wasn't muddled by Rowena's attack dog spell, he still wouldn't be able to help the brothers.
"There's going to be a certain amount of time where not just the boys, but angels and demons, are going to try to figure out who is the Darkness? What does the Darkness want? How powerful is the Darkness?" executive producer Jeremy Carver previously revealed during the San Diego Comic Con last July.
"The Darkness is something of a bed time story that you heard but to actually be dealing with it puts all of the animals of the kingdom on high alert."
The silver lining of the whole mishap, however, is that the boys will finally let go of whatever anger or hurt they felt in previous seasons.
"From the boys perspective, there is no getting around the fact that for want of saving one another they released it," Carver further shared. "They are more united than ever with the idea of 'We broke it so we gotta fix it.'"
