Those rumors of Zoe Ball joining "Top Gear" aren't true, according to new host Chris Evans. The former Radio 2 DJ called the reports as "hilariously inaccurate."
Evans' denial comes after The Sunday Mirror claimed that Ball impressed producers during a screening test and is now in the pole position for the presenting gig.
"The chemistry between Zoe and Chris is perfect," a source told the publication.
"Ball and Evans have known each other for a long time, having both separately appeared on Channel 4's 'The Big Breakfast' and with Ball acting as Evan's relief presenter on his Radio 2 breakfast show," Digital Spy said.
After taking over from Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond, Evans said "Top Gear" would "definitely 100 percent" have a female co-presenter, according to the website.
But one by one, female presenters have been dropping out of the race. "The Classic Car Show" presenter Jodie Kidd was the bookies top pick until she ruled herself out recently. Suzi Perry was also ruled out after she signed another contract as Formula One host.
After they were spotted in a "secret meeting" with Evans, Kidd did suggest that Ball could be in the running as "Top Gear" co-presenter.
But with the frontman himself denying the reports, could this mean she has indeed dropped out of the race?
Fans may recall that Evans denied reports he was about to join "Top Gear" after much speculation.
"I can categorically say I am not and will never be running for office. Pls discount my candidacy," he said back in March as quoted by The Independent.
Ball has so far remained tight-lipped about speculations. The BBC has yet to comment on them.
Chris Evans is reportedly keen on signing F1 champ Jenson Button. Others tipped to join "Top Gear" are motorbike racer Guy Martin, presenter Dermot O'Leary and actor Philip Glenister.
