Andrew Garfield Wants A Gay Spider-Man? He Doesn't Care About The Superhero's Sexual Preference

| By

Andrew Garfield's throne was handed over to the 19-year-old British actor Tom Holland, but that does not stop him from talking about Spider-Man.

The 32-year-old screen heartthrob starred as Peter Parker in "The Amazing Spider-Man" series, but the third installment didn't push through.

During an interview with UPROXX, Garfield revealed what could have been the plot of the sequel.

"We thought to kind of start from the base level, the foundational level of where have we left Peter and where do we want to see him go and what's logical," he said.

"We got to some pretty heavy places and I was really excited to kind of explore it and be involved on the ground level like that. But, anyway, it wasn't meant to be. As I say, I'm just really excited that I get to watch," the actor added.

In a leaked document published by Mic.com, Sony and Marvel explained why Spider-Man should be male, white, and straight.

Andrew Garfield reportedly told the website that he doesn't give a shit about the sexual preference of the web-slinging superhero.

In fact, he has been convincing the producers to show a less strictly heterosexual Peter Parker for years.

"I'm excited to get to the point where we don't have to have this conversation, where we can have a pansexual Spider-Man," he said. "What are we so scared of? Why are we so, 'No, it has to be this way, a man and a woman.' Why is that even a conversation?"

A few years ago, Andrew Garfield hinted that he wanted to see a gay Spider-Man.

"Why can't we discover that Peter is exploring his sexuality? It's hardly even groundbreaking!" he told Entertainment Weekly. "Why can't he be gay? Why can't he be into boys?"

Emma Stone's boyfriend also explained why this particular superhero is the perfect Marvel character to break the stereotype.

"The beauty about Spider-Man, for me, is that he's covered head to toe. That's why everyone thinks it could be them in that suit," he said.

"You don't see skin color. You don't see sexual orientation. You don't see how old the person is, gender, the whole thing. I celebrate that. Anyone can be a hero in their own lives," Andrew Garfield added.

Find out if Marvel and Sony will listen to the actor and surprise everyone in the "Spider-Man" reboot which is scheduled for release in 2017.
