Finally! "Assassin's Creed" movie starring Michael Fassbender has started filming.
According to Ubisoft's Yvew Guillemot, "We have the pleasure to announce today that the green light has been given by New Regency, and the production has already started. This is a very important milestone for the project and for our team on Assassin's Creed."
Comic Book added that Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard together with director Justin Kurzel and the rest of the cast and crew are now in Malta for the film's production.
With the release date set on Dec. 21, 2016, Michael Fassbender admitted that making a movie out of a complex game was no easy task he explained in a previous interview with Movie Pilot.
"That's always the challenge of something that's so dense, to really find something and pare it down and basically, there are so many elements to it, so trying to translate that to an audience, you have to pick key things," the actor explained. "So yes, that is part of it, getting through the density of it and paring down and engaging a simple story."
And in a separate interview with Game Spot, he further explained why "Assassin's Creed" took a long time to develop.
"You say it's a long time, but what I've found - it's all new to me, but starting to develop scripts and work on them, they take time," Fassbender explained.
Adding, "It just takes time to get a good story together and we really want to do it right. It's exciting. It's going to start this year, we'll be filming in September."
While he tries hard to remain tightlipped about the film's details, Head of Content Azaïzia Aymar posted snippets of information about Fassbender's role on his Twitter account.
Blastr was able to caption Aymar's Twitter feed that imposed possible "Assassin's Creed" spoilers.
Apparently, Fassbender will portray two characters in the film, the modern-day Callum Lynch, "and Aguilar will be his ancestor in the past," Aymar tweeted.
Aymar added that there will be no Altair, Ezio or Connor, but he promised that, "It's possible you may find some familiar faces."
