John Green, the acclaimed author of best-selling books "Paper Towns," "The Fault in Our Stars" and "Looking for Alaska" recently announced that he is taking an indefinite hiatus to deal with his mental illness as well as focus on his upcoming novel.
John Green has hordes of fans in the internet, even before he went on to become one of the most popular Young Adult novel writers in this generation, Green has been known as the other half of the "Vlog Brothers," a Youtube channel he started with his brother, Hank Green.
The Youtube channel has about 2.7 million followers, who identify themselves as "Nerdfighters."
Needless to say, John Green had an active social media presence - but not for long.
On Monday, the 38-year-old author announced that he will take a temporary break on his social media accounts to focus on writing his next novel and to deal with his chronic mental illness.
"Hi! So I am going on a social media hiatus beginning today while I work on a new story," Green wrote on Facebook. "I'll return when I've made substantive progress. There are several reasons for the hiatus, I guess, but the biggest one is that I need to get some writing done."
Although the author did not mention his struggle with mental illness on Facebook, in his Tumblr account, Green elaborated his reasons for temporarily leaving social media.
"For both professional and personal reasons, I want and need to write a book, and so I want to direct all my energy toward the story," Green explained on Tumblr.
"I've also had a difficult few months in terms of dealing with my mental illness, which is a chronic (but treatable!) part of my life, and I'm hopeful that taking a step back from online life will help me regain some equilibrium,"
John Green went on to inform his followers that his assistant, Rosianna will be keeping his social media accounts updated while he's away and busy working on a new book.
