Floyd Mayweather has just won against Andre Berto for what could be the final fight of his rich boxing career.
Sporting a 49-0 win-loss slate to match the four-decade record of Rocky Marciano, Floyd said he is stepping away from boxing. With this unstained slate, does this automatically put him as the greatest ever just like what he persistently claims?
Former Undisputed World Champion Evander Holyfield thinks Floyd Mayweather Jr., who recorded two wins this year, one against Manny Pacquiao, is a great fighter. However, he doesn't think the controversial champ is the greatest of all time.
"Everyone has that opinion of himself and I don't think there's anything wrong with having that opinion. But do I really think that about Mayweather? No, I don't," Holyfield said told BoxingScene.com when asked about Floyd's claim he is the TBE - or The Best Ever.
"I definitely think he's a great fighter - I wouldn't take that away from him - but you can't say [you're the] best ever until everything stops, each generation is supposed to get better."
Although he disagrees with Floyd Mayweather Jr, Holyfield insists he has the utmost respect for him.
"He will definitely go down as one of the great fighters in whatever weight division they choose to put him in. He won the championship in a lot of divisions, but he never fought everybody," he said.
"He has already achieved that despite his personality, which leaves a lot to be desired. But I love Floyd and his talent and skill are undeniable."
After coming out triumphant against Andre Berto this weekend, Floyd Mayweather Jr said he is contented now with what he has accomplished. He also insisted on how he made it look easy to achieve the 49-0 record.
"I don't know another fighter that made it look so easy ... I made it look so easy," Mayweather said after the fight.
His opponent Andre Berto also has nothing but good words for him.
"He's just smart. Really smart," Berto said. "I got caught up, like everybody else, in trying to knock him out. Even when I was on the inside, he'd tie me up with his little tactics. You want to catch his [rear] and get him out of there. He's too sharp."
Is Holyfield right about Floyd Mayweather Jr and the greatest ever debate?
