A new teaser trailer for "Marvel's Jessica Jones" Netflix series dropped last week announcing a Nov. 20 release date. From the minute-long teaser, many picked up on a lot of clues to the upcoming superhero show.
As CNET noted, playing in the teaser is Of Monster and Men's "Thousand Eyes," "with lots of purples, oranges and broken glass atmospherically filling the screen."
In the opening bit, an orange liquid spills which leads to Alias Investigations being revealed. Per the website, this could be an allusion to Jones' origin as a superhero after the car she's in with her father crashes into a military vehicle with an experimental liquid on board.
But for YouTuber Charlie Schneider of Emergency Awesome fame, it's actually an allusion to Krysten Ritter's titular character's alcoholism. He also pointed out that the Birch St. and Higgins Dr. signs pinpoint her business location.
Also in his trailer breakdown, Schneider said the purple is "a metaphor for the influence the Purple Man [David Tennant] exerts in her life."
"He completely colors her perception of the world and, very literally, controls her mind," he added.
For the uninitiated, Jessica Jones took on the superhero alter ego of Jewel. Things went awry and she's mind controlled by the Purple Man. Jessica Jones gives up the superhero life and chooses to be a private detective after doing bad things and breaking off the villain's control.
Schneider also thought that the teaser, which revealed the show's release date, could be the longer version of "Marvel's Jessica Jones'" title sequence. He likened it to Netflix stablemate "Daredevil's" opening credits where blood red is seen bleeding down various shapes.
"Jessica Jones" follows "Daredevil" in Marvel and Netflix's lineup of shows. A third and fourth one, "Luke Cage" and "Iron Fist" are also in the pipeline. All for characters will appear in the ensemble show "The Defenders."
In the meantime, the 13-episode "Jessica Jones" Netflix series, based on Marvel's "Alias" comics, has been confirmed for a Nov. 20 release date.
