NBC recently released a new "Grimm" season 5 trailer featuring Nick Burkhardt's (David Giuntoli) downward spiral after losing both his mother and Juliette (Bitsie Tulloch). Will nothing stop him from seeking revenge?
Perhaps one of the most noticeable secne in the video was Juliette lying in a coffin, confirming her death despite die-hard fans' denial of it.
Showrunner David Greenwalt previously said that her death was inevitable since there seemed to be no way to redeem her character when she started enjoying being Hexenbiest.
"As she, you know, turned into a Hexenbiest and went kind of wild and then started enjoying her powers and then felt so betrayed by Nick having Adalind's baby even though it wasn't Nick's fault..." the executive producer said. "It was just the natural way she grew and developed in the course of the season and it seemed like that was something inevitable that had to happen."
Greenwalt also revealed to The Hollywood Reporter that fans should anticipate a darker storyline this season.
"I think it's going to be even darker still in a way," he said. "You know, it's not going to be the same 'Grimm.' I think it will be even bigger, even darker, even weirder. You know, I think it's where it naturally will go."
Nevertheless, losing both his mother and Juliette just days apart will fuel Nick's anger for the Royals. The recent "Grimm" season 5 trailer shows him being driven by his anger as he looks for a way to get revenge on them.
He looks like he will stop at nothing to get revenge on the Royals. Despite his grief and loss, Captain Sean Renard (Sasha Roiz) won't be tolerating his reckless behaviour and seems to be suspending him from his duties as a cop.
Nick won't be all about vengeance this season, however. The birth of his son with former enemy Adalind Shade (Claire Coffee) will reportedly help him reign in his anger.
"He lost his girlfriend, he lost his mom ... and the baby is kind of the reason for him to keep going," Guintoli previously told TVLine about the role his son will play in his quest for revenge.
