Pepsi-Flavored Cheetos are being sold in Japan for a limited time according to USA Today.
A review for the product, on The Impulsive Buy blog posted Thursday said the snack tastes like soda.
"The first sensation, which I did not expect, was a very acidic bite," Steve, the reviewer wrote."It tries to capture the citrus notes of Pepsi, but it's over the top. Too lemony. The sweeter cola flavor is there, but it's subtler and overpowered by the intense citrus."
New products guru at research firm Mintel Lynn Dornblaser told USA Today people like different product combinations.
"Consumers all want something absolutely new that's never been seen before," she said.
Dornblaser said the combination of two brands of flavor, which most would might not think of doing on a normal basis is a direct result of the "short attention spans" of attracting people to buy them out of the estimated 20,000 food and drink products unveiled each year in the United States.
"There's something to be said about products that elicit an 'ew' response," she said.
The weird mixture would not totally deter Dornblaser from eating the new flavor.
"I'd eat a handful," she told USA Today.
"The mouth doesn't anticipate the combo, which actually makes it more pleasurable to the brain," Food scientist and author of "Why Humans Like Junk Food: The Inside Story on Why You Like Your Favorite Foods," Steven Witherly told USA Today. "If something looks like a Cheeto but tastes like a Pepsi, it wakes up the brain."
According to USA Today, there are no plans for the chip to be brought to the United States.
Taco Bell has also experimented with different flavors combining Doritos chips with its Taco products USA Today reported.
