‘Mirror’s Edge Catalyst’ Update: Game Controls Explained By Game Developers

| By

EA and DICE recently explained "Mirror's Edge Catalyst" game controls.

In a recent interview with Lead Gameplay Designer Rickard Antroia, he revealed to fans the latest update about the upcoming parkour game. He went on to explain the controls work on "Mirror's Edge Catalyst" starting from the basic movements, SegmentNext reported.

"Moving forward and using what we call Up and Down Actions are the fundamentals of movement in 'Mirror's Edge Catalyst.'"

"Fans of the first game will be familiar in how this is handled. Since there isn't a dedicated jump button the left shoulder buttons (or PC equivalent) will be used instead, signaling an intent from the player," Antroia said.

He then continued that "own instincts within the game and your surroundings will trigger certain parkour actions." Also, he added the significance of Shift key for more fluid and powerful combat, Examiner added.

"The origin of Shift is that we wanted to find something that lets you gain speed faster. Shift lets you move sideways in any direction, and also backwards. Say you get too close to a threat or just want to back up and get a clearer view of your surroundings, Shift will take care of that," Antroia said.

"One extra perk of using Shift like this is that you can't fall off of ledges while doing it. This means you can use this technique on dodgy terrain and on small catwalks without railings."

As the "Mirror's Edge Catalyst" release date is looming, GAME will exclusively distribute the game's collector's edition in the UK and was listed on its retailer's website for a whopping price of £169.

"The limited set for the upcoming parkour action title features a host of exclusive extras including a steelbook, lithograph, temporary tattoos, concept art and a storage box. But the star of the show is definitely a 14 inch diorama which reveals old and young versions of Faith," Irish Examiner wrote.

We'll keep you posted for more "Mirror's Edge Catalyst" updates!
