'Empire' Season 2 Release Date, Spoiler And More: Who Is Vivica A. Fox Playing?

| By

"Empire" season 2 release date is coming but the show is not yet done beefing up its cast.

The latest addition to the hit 2015 Fox musical drama is "Kill Bill" star Vivica A. Fox.

Who will she be playing?

For an actor of such stature, "Empire" makes sure her character can go toe-to-toe with Taraji P. Henson's Cookie Lyon. In fact, her character is really close to the Boo Boo Kitty.

"The world of Empire keeps getting bigger! EW has exclusively learned that Kill Bill star Vivica A. Fox will be appearing on season 2 of the Fox hit as the oldest sister of Cookie (Taraji P. Henson)," Entertainment Weekly reported.

"Fox's character comes to Empire in search of her younger sis for reasons unknown."

The website also teased how compelling Fox's character would be just like Cookie's another sister who appeared in the first season.

"We've already met Cookie's sister Carol (Tasha Smith) but executive producer Ilene Chaiken tells EW, 'Cookie's other family members are troublesome to say the least.' Soooo we're guessing Fox's character, who debuts in episode 8, isn't exactly aiming for Sibling of the Year."

"Empire" season 2 release date is on Sept. 23 and although it is just at least a week away, don't be surprised to see the cast get bigger.

Vivica A. Fox joins a slew of elite guest stars in the show. The list includes Mariah Carey, Common, Ludacris, Tyrese Gibson, Alicia Keys, Chris Rock, and more.

Although it will be a smorgasbord of stars when "Empire" season 2 release date arrives, showrunner Ilene Chaiken assures the focus will still be on Lucius Lyon (Terrence Howard) and his family.

"Don't worry about the guest casting, because Empire is about the Lyon family and they're always going to be the more important thing," she said in an interview with TV Line.

"Our rule for ourselves, even though all of these fabulous people are being presented to us on these lovely silver platters, is that we're going to tell our stories, and if [guest stars] fit into our stories, fantastic. 'So-and-so wants to be on Empire, and we've got this story, and she would be great as this character.' Every once in a while, we might spend a bit of time figuring out what we can do with a certain person who really wants to be on the show, but if it doesn't fit, we don't do it."
