Both Classic and Sport models of Motorola's newest Android Wear smartwatch may be officially out, but there's still room for one more Moto 360 2nd gen leak. Intriguingly, it suggested that a third "value tier" wearable was supposed to have come out as well.
"Imaan Naeem, who works at Motorola as an industrial designer, posted some concept images of what this 'value tier' Moto 360 would have looked liked," according to EyeOnMobility.
The post has since been taken down but not before EOM managed to save some of the leaked images and post it on their website.
The allegedly cheaper Moto 360 retains the crown at the two o'clock position as the Classic and Sport. But the similarities end there.
"Instead of external lug nuts, it sports a spring-loaded bar that makes it easy to swap out both NATO and regular bands," EOM said.
Another image, with the tagline "affordable | durable | adaptable," showed different smartwatch bands, according to Wareable.
Per the Moto 360 2nd leak, the Android Wear smartwatch also has a colourful ring around its display which may also be interchangeable. Wareable said Motorola designed the device with the youth market in mind.
Flip the wearable device over and a charging contact can be seen. According to the website, this "implies that [it] would use a physical connection to charge, as opposed to the Qi wireless charging that the standard Moto 360 has."
Depending on the model, the Moto 360 2nd gen retails from $299.99 to $429.99. Given this price range, EOM speculated that the "value tier" would have been priced below $300.
The Moto 360 2nd gen leak didn't say why Motorola didn't push through with the "value tier" Android Wear smartwatch.
"However, there is a chance that Motorola is still working on the model for a later release date," Wareable said.
