After trying for a girl, Jay and Kateri Schwandt of Rockford gave birth to their 12th son this week, according to The Associated Press.
Both thought the baby's arrival would halt the family's male trend since Kateri was nine days past her due date, an uncommon occurrence in her previous births.
"Of course. There was a chuckle in the whole room," Kateri told The Associated Press. " I looked at my husband, and we exchanged a knowing smile. When they say it's a boy, I think OK, no problem. I've got this. We know what we're doing," she said.
The family's latest addition is Tucker who came into the world at seven pounds, 12 ounces the AP reported.
The Schwandt's other children are: Tyler at 21 years-old, Zack, 17, Drew, 16, Brandon, 14,Tommy, 11, Vinny 10, Calvin, 8, Gabe, 6, Wesley, 5, Charlie 3, and Luke, 19 months Today.com reported.
The couple had already decided to name the baby Jaynie anticipating that it would be a girl Today.com reported.
"We thought maybe, maybe, you know, we're going to have a girl. Number 12 could be the one," Kateri told Today.com.
Kateri, who according to Today.com goes by Teri, told the show the family is looking to having the new addition in their home.
"Having another baby in the house, it's just natural now," she said. "We are confident that he is going to fit right in and we gave up a long time ago on a little girl showing up in this family."
The couple wed in marriage at 18 and gave birth to Tyler while in college, Today.com reported.
A couple's chances of having a boy are 50-50, while the chances of one family having a dozen boys is 4,000 to 1 Today.com reported.
