Walgreens, and CVS Caremark are helping customers become informed about the Health Insurance Marketplace, created by the Affordable Care Act according to the Tennessean.
Walgreens chief strategy officer Brad Fluegel told the Tennessean about people who are not sure what to do.
"There's a lot of confusion, a lot of questions, and it'll take a tremendous, collaborative effort to make sure people have the information they need," he told the paper.
The pharmacy chains are giving customers brochures about expanded access to insurance. Walgreens is also launching a website, LearnAboutReform.com, in its partnership with the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association.
According to the Tennessean, the choice has annoyed those against the federal health law, which they call "Obamacare." However, company higher ups said in news releases they only to inform customers.
"We have a tremendous opportunity to help Americans understand the new health care law and how it affects them so consumers can receive the coverage that best fits their families," CVS Caremark executive Helena Foulkes told the paper.
CVS Caremark is planning special events to notify people about the access to health coverage, which has been extended to them. Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius her department was happy with what it saw the two company's doing to inform patients and sign them up, the Tennessean reported.
"We're pleased to see members of the business and health care communities joining in the effort to get their patients and customers enrolled," Sebelius said. "We've seen that with the partnership between Walgreens and Blue Cross Blue Shield, and CVS's recent announcement that it plans to educate its customers," she said.
