How Carrie Moved On From Brody? 'Homeland' Season 5 Premiere's New Character Is The Reason

| By

Audience for most of the time feel only pity, or sometimes hate, towards Carrie Mathison (Claire Danes) for her misfortunes and wrong decisions.

However, when "Homeland" season 5 premiere episode airs, what viewers will feel might be the complete opposite.

The bipolar CIA agent will be found in Berlin, Germany in "Homeland" season 5 premiere and there, she will meet someone who will make her smile and maybe, forget about ex-boyfriend and now deceased Brody (Damian Lewis).

"In a twist no one will see coming, Carrie will be smiling when we first see her in the Season 5 premiere (which picks up two years after the Season 4 finale and finds Claire Danes' leading lady living as a civilian in Berlin). A big source of her happiness: new boyfriend Jonas (Alexander Fehling)," TV Line wrote.

Showrunner Alex Gansa also confirmed to the website that Claire Danes' character is at the most peaceful state of her life when the show returns.

"She's in a normal, stable relationship," reveals exec producer Alex Gansa. "This isn't Brody. Or Quinn. He's conventional in the best sense. He's a rock for her."

Although she found a new love, her other relationships were strained, particularly the one with her long time mentor Saul (Mandy Patinkin).

"During the vetting process, Carrie was asked to testify," explains Gansa when asked to teased about the relationship between the two. "And she [suggested] that Saul might not be the best person to lead the agency."

Gansa revealed to the Hollywood Reporter back in July that "Homeland" season 5 will tackle a timely story and although the setting is far from the United States or usual locations like Middle East countries, the story is something that people deal with in real life.

"This story is current," he said two months ago to THR.

"With all of the stuff that's going on just south of Berlin in the Middle East and to the east in Russia and Ukraine, it's fascinating. Carrie is out of the intelligence business when the season starts and she finds herself in Berlin. It's a center for dissidence. That's where hacktivists go because German privacy laws are so strict. It's hard to have surveillance on people there."

"Homeland" season 5 premiere is on Oct. 4.
