Angelina Jolie Is An Angel On Earth, Say Syrian Refugees; Actress Slams U.N.

Angelina Jolie continues to be an "angel on Earth" to Syrian refugees.

The 40-year-old actress and Special Envoy for Refugees criticized the United Nations (U.N.) during a briefing to the Security Council due to their inaction on what is perceived to be the largest refugee crisis the world has ever seen since the World War II.

The current refugee crisis has already left thousands of people dead as they attempted to cross the seas in search for a better, more peaceful life in other countries.

"We cannot look at Syria, and the evil that has arisen from the ashes of indecision, and think this is not the lowest point in the world's inability to protect and defend the innocent," Angelina Jolie said of the Syrian refugee crisis.

"Nearly 4 million Syrian refugees are victims of a conflict they have no part in, yet they are stigmatized, unwanted, and regarded as a burden," she added.

Jolie then slammed the U.N. for being "indecisive" despite its extensive power.

"The Security Council has powers to address these threats to international peace and security but those powers lie unused," she said. "The UN has adopted the responsibility to protect concept - saying that when a state cannot protect its people the international community will not stand by, but we are standing by in Syria."

"It is sickening to see thousands of refugees drowning on the doorstep of the world's wealthiest content," added Jolie. "No one risks the lives of their children in this way except out of utter desperation."

Since 2011, Angelina Jolie has travelled different countries and visited many families that have been displaced due to wars.

Last June, Jolie even visited some of the Syrian refugees in Turkey with her daughter, Shiloh.

According to the report, Turkey holds the largest refugee community- around 1.6 million people.

And while European countries like Germany and Austria have opened their doors wide for Syrian refugees from the start, some countries like the United Kingdom had only just announced that they will take in 20,000 Syrian refugees over the next five year but only after a significant amount of pressure from its European Union neighbors.
