NVIDIA SHIELD Tablet Recall: Replacement Units Delayed; Tech Firm Struggling To Meet Demand?

| By

Consumers who are part of the NVIDIA SHIELD tablet recall are reportedly facing delays as the tech company is struggling to meet the demand of the 88,000 owners affected.

According to a report by DroidLife, shipments of replacement units are facing delays as NVIDIA told several of its customers via email.

"We apologize for the delay in sending your replacement SHIELD Tablet," the email reads.

The gaming-centric tech company acknowledge it is running behind their targeted two to four-week delivery timeframe but assured its customers that it is "fulfilling claims as quickly as [they] can."

"We're doing everything we can to accelerate the schedule."

While NVIDIA said it will inform its customers when they get their replacement units, it didn't mention how long the NVIDIA SHIELD tablet recall delays will go on.

"Despite this, you can't be that mad at NVIDIA for this particular detail, after all there were around 90,000 SHIELD Tablets that contained faulty batteries," Android Headlines said.

Powered by a 2.2GHz quad-core Tegra K1 processor, 2GB of RAM and coming with an 8-inch 1920 x 1200p display and a pair of 5MP cameras, the SHIELD tablet is an Android tablet designed specifically with gaming in mind.

Early last month, Franchise Herald reported that a NVIDIA issued a recall over batteries that tend to overheat under heavy usage which could lead to a fire hazard.

The US Consumer Product Safety Commission said 83,000 units in the US were affected by the recall with another 5,000 units in Canada all sold between July 2014 and July 2015. The government agency said it has already received four reports of overheating SHIELD tablet batteries.

Back then, Gizmodo speculated that the Santa Clara, Calif.-based tech firm didn't correctly anticipate the kind of heavy usage users would put the SHIELD tablet through resulting in "mismatching."

As is stands, those affected by the NVIDIA SHIELD tablet recall will have to wait for their replacement units longer. For the meantime, NVIDIA said they can direct their inquiries to nvidiashieldtablet@stericycle.com.
