It was teased earlier this year at Computex 2015 but now, the Asus ZenWatch 2 has officially been revealed at IFA 2015 with a European release date set for October.
According to The Verge, the Android Wear smartwatch will be priced €149 (around $170) for the larger 49mm variant featuring a 1.6-inch display. The smaller 45mm variant with a 1.45-inch display will go for €169 ($190).
By contrast, the Apple Watch starts at $349 in the US. Other Android Wear smartwatches such as the Motorola Moto 360 2 start at $299.
"The original ZenWatch was already one of the best-priced Android Wear watches on the market, and Asus is now looking to push the price down even further with its 2015 generation," TV said.
But the Taiwanese smartwatch is no slouch compared to its rivals. Along with the announcement of the Asus ZenWatch 2 release date in Europe, the specs for both variants were also unveiled.
"The watch features a steel design and a 1.63- or 1.45-inch Gorilla Glass 3-cover AMOLED display, with a 320 x 320 and 280 x 280 resolutions, respectively," Tech Times said.
Other specs include Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.1 connectivity, 4GB of internal storage and a Snapdragon 400 processor working with 512MB or RAM and IP67 water resistance. Asus claims over two days of battery life for the ZenWatch 2 but only in ambient mode - where it's mostly used as a watch.
According to the tech firm, charging from zero to 50 percent capacity - enough to last a day - takes just 36 minutes thanks to a new magnetic charger.
Asus also made out its next-gen smartwatch "to be a truly personal device that wearers can customize."
Supposedly, users can choose from up to 18 different strap materials and color combinations and interchangeable watch faces. Asus also said users can also create their own watch faces via a new FaceDesigner smartphone app.
US customers will have to wait for the official announcement on the Asus ZenWatch 2 release date and price.
