What better way to spend your Thursday lunch break than by popping over to 7-Eleven for a free slurpee.
In celebration of its birthday and the day being July 11 or 7/11, the store is giving away a small 12-ounce Slurpee to customers at any North American location.
The giveaway has occurred on July 11 since 2002. The free Slurpees will be offered until 7 p.m. local time. The birthday celebration also will include an in-store dance party with favors and Slurpee-branded merchandise for sale.
Besides generating goodwill among customers, the event has proved curiously successful in boosting sales of Slurpees on the day of the giveaway.
7-Eleven has sold nearly6.5 billion Slurpee'ssince the drink was created -- that's almost enough for every person on Earth, the company said in a statement
7-Eleven expects to give away roughly 7 million Slurpees on Thursday, July 11, 2013, up from around 4.5 million free Slurpees in 2011. Slurpee sales, meanwhile, may rise as much as 40% on Free Slurpee Day. Sales of hot dogs, beef jerky, and other snacks that pair well with icy drinks will surely soar as well.
