Jenna Dewan Tatum may be the newest member of "Supergirl" TV series cast but she is not the least important in the line-up.
Introduced earlier last month, the wife of Channing Tatum is set to play Lucy Lane who in the comics is the latest human to take on the Superwoman title.
Previous reports said Lucy Lane is added in the cast to become the third party in supposed romance between Supergirl/Kara Danvers (Melissa Benoist) and James Olsen (Mehcad Brooks).
She is more than just that. Executive producer Ali Adler said there is a larger storyline prepared for the sister of Lois Lane.
"We hope to explore the history that Lucy has with James Olsen - or, as Lucy knows him, Jimmy Olsen," Adler said of the new "Supergirl" TV series cast in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.
"I think we're going to bring in her father. She not only plays a romantic foil with whatever Kara and James are brewing, but people will also be surprised that she's really a woman's woman. She and Kara develop their own friendship, too. We're not just bringing her in to purposefully create tension. She serves a larger story drive."
Jenna Dewan Tatum becoming part of the "Supergirl" TV series cast was first reported in early August by The Hollywood Reporter.
"Set to make her debut in the third episode, Dewan-Tatum will play Lois Lane's younger sister, Lucy. The character is as brash, funny and beautiful as her older sister Lois Lane. Lucy is strong, smart and successful in her own right. She's got a history with Jimmy Olsen (Mehcad Brooks), and she's come to town to right a previous wrong," THR wrote.
Before "Supergirl," Tatum's TV credit includes "The Mindy Project," "Witches of East End" and "American Horror Story: Asylum."
"Supergirl" series premiere is on Oct. 26.
Other parts of "Supergirl" TV series cast also includes Calista Flockhart as Cat Grant, Chyler Leigh as Alex Danvers, Laura Benanti as Alura Zor-El, David Harewood as Hank Henshaw, Dean Cain as Jeremiah Danvers, and Helen Slater as Eliza Danvers.
