While the "Final Fantasy 7" PS4 remake's visuals are starting to become clear, producer Yoshinori Kitase revealed the game's battle system is still being given thought.
"We're starting to see the visual direction," Kitase told Japanese gaming publication Famitsu (via Gematsu).
This corroborates director Tetsuya Nomura's statement regarding the "FF7" remake's graphics. As Franchise Herald previously reported, the game developer said they'll be taking cues from the 2005 film "Advent Children" although its 3D models won't be used.
"This statement shouldn't come as a shocker to anyone who watched the announcement trailer, which fits right into 'Advent Children's' sleek gritty look," iDigitalTimes said.
"FFXV" director Hajime Tabata recently said the PS4 remake "is not planned" to be made with his game's Luminous Engine.
But as far as the remake's battle system is concerned, Kitase said they're still working on it "through trial-and-error."
"Since there's a possibility that the command battle system of the old days might not work today, we're thinking hard about what kind of direction we can take it," he said.
Nomura has already confirmed "dramatic changes" for the "Final Fantasy 7" PS4 remake's battle system. The game is expected to move away from traditional turn-based combat to the now prevalent action-oriented active combat.
From Kitase's statement, the development team is still looking at how to approach that part of the PS4 remake's gameplay.
"Normally, when you do a remake, it becomes somewhere along the lines of a familiar action RPG, so we're looking at how we can put out something like 'Final Fantasy VII' while still surprising players," Kitase said.
Fans will just have to wait for the "FF7" remake it seems and while they do, Kitase joked:
"Please don't ask about how far into development we are and such. (Laughs.)"
The "Final Fantasy 7" PS4 remake has no confirmed release date yet. For those who can't wait, the 1997 PlayStation original's iOS port is now available for download.
