You'll have one more reason to add to your fear of flying thanks to "The Walking Dead" online series.
According to Entertainment Weekly, "AMC is producing a half-hour special that will tell a stand-alone story following a group of passengers facing a walker attack on an airline while in flight."
The commercial flight, which the website presumed to be headed to Los Angeles, will be in the air just as the zombie apocalypse is about to begin.
"One character who survives that encounter will then join the cast of 'Fear the Walking Dead' in season 2."
"Fear" showrunner Dave Erickson and co-executive producer David Weiner are said to be attached to the project.
Instalments of "The Walking Dead" online series will be shown both on the Internet and during commercial breaks of "TWD" season 6, Variety reported. But AMC is still in the process of figuring out how to divide the story for broadcast and how long each instalment will last, the website added.
Self-contained "Walking Dead" online shorts are nothing new. 2011's "Torn Apart" explored the story of Hannah, better known as "bicycle zombie," who Rick Grimes shot in the pilot episode. This was followed by "Cold Storage" in 2012 which focused on a group of survivors at a storage facility.
Most recently in 2013, "The Oath" followed the story of two lone survivors of a huge walker attack in search of help as one bleeds out from a wound.
But as E! Online noted, "this is the first time AMC is using a web series to introduce a new character to the TV universe."
There's no news on when "The Walking Dead" online series will premiere yet. Season 6 won't return until October 11. Companion series "Fear the Walking Dead" is already showing on AMC and reportedly premiered to a record 13.3 million viewers which makes it the biggest series premiere on cable.
