"It breaks my heart -- ," Obama said, as reported by USA Today. "Every time you read or hear about these kinds of incidents,"

"It's a testimony in this case to the fact that local journalists, they go into tough places. This isn't one of those situations," the president added. They should have been safe. I think it's one more argument for why we need to look at how we can reduce gun violence in this country."

Obama also emphasized on the skewed way the US treat guns, citing the country's expenses on anti-terrorism measures while all around the country, gun control is standing on flimsy grounds.

"What we know is that the number of people who die from gun-related incidents around this country dwarfs any deaths that happen through terrorism," Obama said.

The president added that the whole country should push for change in the matter of gun control in the US.

On the other hand, democratic candidate Hillary Clinton also expressed her "grief and anger" over the Virginia shooting incident.

"We lose people to gun violence every day. It's time to come to grips with this," Clinton wrote.

"Politics are hard. But when it comes to gun violence, we cannot give up. We cannot sit by while more good people die. We must keep going," she added.

On Thursday, Virginia TV reporter Alison Parker and cameraman Adam Ward were shot dead by their ex-colleague Vester Flanagan.

While on the run from the police, Flanagan ranted on Twitter, saying that Parker "made racist comments" while Ward "went to HR" after working with him once.

The gunman also recorded the shooting incident on video and posted it up on the internet.
