Ariel Winter's breast surgery generated a lot of buzz, both positive and negative after she came clean to Glamour about it.
She was met with praises and messages of support from her co-stars and fans for being open about her breast reduction operation.
According to The Daily Beast, however, the 17-year-old still had to deal with criticism over the fact that she got plastic surgery done at such a young age.
The article noted that teen plastic surgery "plays into our fears of lost innocence and rampant hedonism." With Lindsay Lohan and Amanda Bynes' current situations, it's easy to understand the public's trauma over this matter.
However, is Ariel Winter's breast surgery an indication of the same downward spiral that Lohan and Bynes went through?
According to the TV star's "Modern Family" co-stars, her decision to become more comfortable in her own skin was commendable.
"I'm super proud of her. I'm super happy for her," Sarah Hyland told E! News about her onscreen sister's surgery.
"She's a tiny girl," she continued. "We're practically the same size. I'm about a half of an inch or an inch taller than her and I can't imagine carrying that weight."
She added that seeing Winter "healthy" and "happy" is "all that matters" to her.
On the other hand, Fusion reported that breast reduction surgery among American teens has actually increased to 157 percent over the past 15 years.
According to the article, more and more teenage girls opt to go under the knife because they are hitting puberty at an earlier age. Winter reportedly started developing at 15.
Some "concerned" individuals may not agree with Ariel Winter getting breast surgery, but the actress seems to be more comfortable with her body now.
In her Glamour interview, she revealed that she couldn't wear the clothes that fit her age. She had to wear mature outfits that eventually received online criticism.
Last Saturday, however, she was able to showcase her new youthful figure at the Tommy Bahama Takeover of Hyde Staples Center for Taylor Swift's concert.
According to US Weekly, she looked cute and confident in a strapless black dress as she mingled with celebrities with her niece and her niece's boyfriend.
