Following the recently released trailer at the 2015 GamesCon, "Mafia 3" release date has been confirmed next year.
And while the exact date has yet to be revealed, a new lead character has been introduced.
According to IGN the third installment of the game will be set in 1968 in the "deep south of New Orleans," a known area at that time, where "violent racism was a part of everyday life." The sequel will welcome Lincoln Clay, described as "half-black, half-white."
In line with this, the new protagonist's race will reportedly play a very important role in "Mafia 3" plot.
Apparenlty, the story will start off with Clay's revenge to the Italian mob after leaving him for dead.
"After returning home from the war, and finding a new family in the 'Black mob,' he once again loses it when the Italian mob wipes them out, shoots Clay in the head, and leaves him for dead," IGN reported.
"And he takes all these anti-hero ingredients and plays the part brutally well, unleashing a rampage of pissed-off vengence that devastates the Italian Mob and creates a power vacuum for organized crime in the city. A space Clay is more than willing to fill."
But the story will not just focus on Lincoln Clay's life, it will also feature other groups fighting for power in New Orleans.
In "Mafia 3," Clay will get the chance to work with a number of big gang leaders that could help build his crime empire.
"Cassandra and her Haitians, Burke and his Irish, and the protagonist from 'Mafia 2,' Vito Scaletta, who lends his faction of Italians. These three lieutenants will grant you special abilities and unlocks if you show them favor, or bicker and betray if they feel you're giving away their piece of this new crime pie."
While not much has been revealed yet, the official "Mafia 3" release date is expected to be announced during the game's anniversary celebration on Aug. 28.
"Every fan and gamer were expecting either game developer 2K Czech or game publisher 2K Games to make an announcement about 'Mafia 3' in the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) 2015 held last month," Master Herald reported.
"But since nothing came out at all, the next best date is during the exact 13th year when the first game of the series came out, cites Mafia Game Info.
Furthermore, the new trailer released at the GamesCon reportedly hints the game's launch.
"Today's trailer confirms the Mafia 3 release date for 2016," Gotta Mobile confirmed. "This means that fans of the series won't be able to play the third-installment this holiday season and it means that we might have a long way to go before we see this game hit shelves.
