Want to be in Europe in an hour? Airbus' new supersonic jet, according to its US patent, suggests that the aircraft can fly faster than the sound of thunder!
The latest Airbus supersonic jet with the newly filed US patent is called "Son of Concorde," which reportedly has a speed four times than the speed of sound.
The said aircraft reportedly can cut short a flight from New York to London in just one hour.
According to documents from the United States and Trademark Office, "Son of Concorde" is an "ultra-rapid air vehicle and related method for aerial locomotion."
"The invention concerns an ultra-rapid vehicle together with a method of aerial locomotion by means of an ultra-rapid air vehicle, where the air vehicle is propelled by a system of motors formed of turbojets," the abstract reads.
According to Mirror, Airbus claims that the plane's aerodynamics dramatically cuts down the sonic bang created when travelling at very rapid speeds.
"The air vehicle proposed by the present invention substantially reduces the noise emitted when the sound barrier is broken," according to the US patent document. "Also called the supersonic "bang"; this noise has been the main limit, if not the only one, preventing the opening of lines other than transatlantic ones for the Concorde aircraft,"
It also has a 20-passenger and three-ton cargo capacity at a 100,000 ft altitude, with the aid of three different engines running on different kinds of hydrogen.
The aircraft is ideal for business travelers. However, with its efficiency, plane ticket prices are expected to be very expensive.
“The performance of the air vehicle allows distances of approximately 900km (for example, Paris-San Francisco or Tokyo-Los Angeles) to be covered in three hours,” the abstract reads.
Airbus also claimed that the supersonic jet recently US patented may be used in military operations.
