South Korea and North Korea are currently in a "quasi-state of war," with Kim Jong-un organizing troops to camp out near the demilitarized zone (DMZ) between the two countries.
This situation reportedly started because of several loudspeakers blasting reports about life in South Korea to the DPRK last week. According to The Independent's i100, the audio being blasted included weather reports, anti-North Korean propaganda, and wildly popular K-Pop songs.
Mashable Asia also reported that this isn't the first time that South Korea blasted North Korea with propaganda using speakers. The same method was used in 2004, when they used the devices to reference life in South Korea.
Like last time, the communist country did not appreciate the recent gesture audio propaganda and instead called the tactic an "anti-Pyongyang psychological warfare."
Artillery shots broke out last Thursday when the South's troops returned fire at the North's attempt to attack the speakers. The demand to take down the speakers was ignored even after Kim demanded they be taken down by Aug. 22.
Both sides have reportedly reached an agreement after hours of high-level talks. However, no clear news has been delivered as to the result of the meeting.
According to The Guardian, the two Koreas have been in a radio battle since the Korean War in the 1950s. One of the three broadcast stations that transmit to the DPRK, the Voice of Freedom radio, reportedly talks about South Korea's "superiority."
"It usually broadcasts about ethnic homogeneity, the superiority of the South Korean system, and various types of K-pop," an unnamed source allegedly told the site.
Meanwhile, Koreaboo noted that a South Korean boy group's recent hit, that's being blasted over the border, could be aggravating the tension.
Bigbang's "Bang Bang Bang" was reportedly part of the playlist, shocking K-Pop fans all over the world. This is because the song's lyrics contain some provocative words that ironically fit the situation.
"BANG! BANG! BANG!" the translated lyrics said. "Nobody move, nobody move / Let's see the end of this night, see the end / Let's see the end of this night / Bang bang bang / Come get us, who is next."
South Korea also blasted North Korea with other K-Pop songs like Girls' Generation's "Genie" and IU's "Heart," among others.
